This project started out as a simple "wrap'' re-design of an existing (100 count) box group. Dealers had been making requests for some sort of product viewing window and the fullfillment of that need precipitated the re-design. At that point the boxes were of two different sizes, four different color combinations supporting 4 different products. Two different sized "Shelf Paks" (5 boxes each) were utilized for shipment and thrown away after stocking, their mission fulfilled.

Rather than simply re-wrap the existing boxes with a window component, I advocated a full re-examination of the box program to see if there would be a more unique-to-the-segment visual solution. Of course any re-design would also have to be cost effective.

The end result was a complete revamp of the program for uniqueness, simplicity, practicality and cost effectiveness. It was a win-win for the dealers giving them all that they wanted and then some and a win-win for the client, meeting his needs and more.

My final design entailed:

#1. A switch to a taller thinner profile to take advantage of the good will developed from our most popular product that was also a tall profile box. This taller box also presented better at the shelf level. Of course a viewing window was included as well as more relevant information about the product and it's benefits.

#2. Color combinations were consolidated down to three from four. Consumer relevance was enhanced along with production simplicity. With that simplicity a production cost savings was realized as well.

#3. Box sizes were designed so that the smaller size box was half of the large box so that only one size "Shelf Pak" delivery system was needed instead of two different.

#4. The new single size Shelf Pak was designed to be more than just a shipper. It became a new delivery system. I dubbed it "Ready Sleeve" with a tag line of "Quick Set-up, Ready To Go!" Ready Sleeve was conceived as a shipper that came shrink-wrapped and factory labeled and UPCed for a quick and easy installation onto the shelf much like a "cut case" scenario, but easier. Quick and easy for any hourly worker with no chance of labeling mistakes. Of course the dealer could also elect to not use Ready Sleeve and stock his shelves in the normal manner. It was promoted as a "no cost extra".
